The unique coastline of Lake Superior is rugged. The rock formations along the south shore just outside of Marquette Michigan are perfect for cliff jumping, sun bathing, and exploring. I have spent many hours sketching, photographing, and simply absorbing this area. When the crashing waves are intense and enormous you gain an appreciation for the smooth rock surfaces and the weathering over time. On a calm summer day the tide pools are restful and inviting. This painting depicts the shoreline landscape, the colors of the sparkling granite, liken, and foliage juxtaposed with the surface of the water, and blue summer sky.
